What should I pack? How much should I bring? Do I need that winter jacket and warm socks? Do I need my hiking boots? How many pairs of underwear will I need for this trip?
I’m sure we’ve all asked ourselves these sorts of questions before venturing out on a holiday or travel adventure. If you’re not a seasoned traveler, packing is a huge mystery because you just don’t know what you’ll need when going to a foreign territory.
On the one hand – you don’t want to carry too much
But on the other hand – you don’t want to leave anything behind which you will need
At least for me, I always have this fear that I won’t be able to find my necessities in the country(ies) I’m traveling to which leads me to being guilty of being a serial over-packer. If you read my blog about my travels to India – I realised VERY quickly that I packed way too much and my luggage case was too big. This also happened to me when I traveled around Europe for 3.5 months. I stupidly thought “I am going away for so long, I need to make sure I have everything I need for that period of time” so i suffered the consequences of carrying a 100 litre backpack for the whole time.
Every time I travel, I forget that it’s actually really easy to get necessities or buy clothes that you need when you’re abroad. It’s not like I’m going into an uncivilized territory or straight into a rain-forest or jungle. I’m going into a city where they sell everything I need and since I’m from an expensive country, all the things I need are virtually the same price or cheaper.
despite discovering all of this through my travels, packing still remains a mystery to me but I have learnt so much so far about what I need and don’t need, as well as what the best things on my trip have been so far, even though it’s just the beginning of my trip.
Below is a list of things I think are amazing investments, things I wish I brought with me and things I regret bringing.
Since it’s still the start of my trip, I’m sure I will change my mind or discover more as time passes and as I do more activities but I will continually update this 😊
If you’re interested in why I think certain things are essential or the best investment, leave your question in the comment section below and I’ll do my best to respond to you as quickly as possible!
